Myott Derby
My parents came to dinner to celebrate their anniversary. Long story short, my grandmother has decided to move into a nursing home. Until now, my aunt had the dishes my parents recieved as a wedding gift from my Nana’s aunty Rachel (my great-grandmother’s adopted step mother) and gave them back to my parents, who generously gave them to me. This is awesome because Steve and I never had dishes as part of our wedding wish list. I always assumed that we’d eventually replace the mat-black kitchen ones with something else that suited our taste when they were either ruined or we could afford it. I have some 6-piece unique sets from Pier One for dinner parties and that has suited us well.
This set is beautiful! It is Myott & Son Derby from England, pattern 7773 in navy and gold with poppy-orange flowers. There are bread plates, salad plates and dinner plates, fruit nappies, soup bowls, a gravy boat and sugar bowl, two covered dishes, the meat tray and a salad bowl. I set it with bronze cutlery my aunt Lexi had given me a few years beforehand, in my single years, and glasses Steve was given by his Grandparents.
Low and behold, there were only 4 bread plates and I had at least 6 of everything else. I did a search on eBay and the only store selling pieces is located in my home town. Can you imagine my delight?!?! Well, as a special treat for my Mom, I bought 4 tea cups and saucers, which was never part of the set she received from Aunty Rachel. She couldn’t get over how thin the lip was and how delicate the design. I was so delighted that she was delighted!
To make use of everything (literally), I made soup to start, followed by grilled vegetables and pan fried rainbow trout, and finished with a rustic apricot tart. Recipes are forthcoming.
