Fondue
My parents hosted an Oscar party last weekend. They served cheese fondue, meat and veggie fondue, I brought Chocolate fondue with pretzels, angel food cake and fruit. Yummmy!
Mom and Dad made the cheese dish and have a wooden Swiss fondue pot for it that they got back in the day when we were kids. They also did a steak fondue and my sister Meaghan provided the pot for it. They had rolled meat that you leave in the pot until done and veggies to go in either (but I liked the cauliflower in cheese). They did a broth, not oil that gave a light flavour. There were two dipping sauces for the meat as well.
Fondue is a Swiss and French dish of melted cheese served in a communal pot over a small burner, and eaten by dipping long-stemmed forks with bread into the cheese. White wine, Gruyère and Emmental cheeses, and kirsch were added and stirred until melted. Each cheese has a different consistency so the blend can change from stringy to runny to a solid mass!
The whole evening was a success. My favourite part was the bread cubes in cheese – since I was on pot stirring duty, I ate most of my serving before dinner was served lol
