Santa Carolina
This past month I made sun-dried tomato pesto on chicken for the girls. I wasn’t overly happy with how it turned out … kinda dry, but that was because it was reheated.
For dessert, we sat out on the new deck (until the mosquitos got the better of us) drinking wine (mostly Kerry and I since Gillian had picked her up) and enjoying chocolate bunt cake. There really is something special about bunt shaped pans. Gillian had never seen one, which was fun because I got to get out mine (and dust it off hahaha). It is an especially suitable shape for Friendship Bread, by the by. This is the treat Kerry brought and this is the wild lily in bloom (it bloomed so late I almost took it for a weed and was going to pull it up in the fall):
Gillian also brought a lovely Cabernet-Sauvignon from Chile by Santa Carolina (2008). It has a strong flavour, and it came in a 1.5L bottle at 13%! The tasting notes say “Deep garnet colour; Bell pepper and cassis on the nose with hints of leather; full and ripe with blackberry fruit nuances; long, supple finish.” It was a beautiful claret in colour – Iwouldn’t say it’s a sipping wine, but decent with chocolate! I would recommend it with steak or rich stew.
