Decorated Sugar Cookies
It’s that time of year – Lyndsey’s annual cookie exchange. I’m super excited 🙂 One of my staff shared her favourite recipe. You make it the night before and she said letting it stand really makes a difference to the taste. I think its because the sugar dissolves as it sits overnight.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups butter, softened (I prefer using the pre-wrapped ½ cup sticks. Let stand or microwave very gently)
- 2 cups white sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
Directions
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).
- Preheat oven to 400 F. Roll out dough on floured surface ¼ to ½” thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.
I made them using an “ugly sweater” cutter lol and my sister came over to help decorate them. Fantastic!
