I haven’t posted in a while and really appreciate my Aunt’s note on FB that she missed my recipes. Truth is, I have been busy gardening.

For our home, I picked up some yellow iris, bleeding heart, fern and solomon’s seal at the local horticultural sale. I was delighted! From the store, I found two beautiful variegated Dahlias in yellow-pink, jack in the pulpit, trillium (yellow, purple and white), and bush-basil. I also added a small 3×3 boxed garden over our old tree stump with some marigolds, parsley, peppers, ground cherry bushes, and nasturtium.

My friend Shirley is also letting me grow with her; her garden is larger than my whole property! She has beets, corn, cucumber, peppers, tomatoes, melon, cantaloupe, buttercup squash, raspberries, asparagus and maybe beans.

Bing and I started a vegetable garden at a local community church, with her boys. We’re growing celery, tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, a dying lettuce, rainbow chard and zucchini, with marigolds for good measure. Friday night was the welcome BBQ.  I was delighted to see some familiar faces. Jon came out to see the garden and Bing saw quite a few of the women she met at a weekly cooking class. There was a wide selection of salads, hamburgers with lots of topping choices, baked beans and hot dogs, juice and a selection of desserts. It was so generous of the church. My ABSOLUTELY FAVOURITE of all the salads was a curried couscous from All Recipes »

Here are a few action shots of their family and our plot:
