Cleaning Cast Iron
We were given a Typhoon Griddle for our wedding. We’ve used it a few times to grill veggies on the BBQ but in all: it’s heavy and very hard to clean … until today. The last time we used it, we cooked fish and it made a mess. I tried to clean it with oil and paper towel (because that’s what my friend uses on her skillet) but to no avail. The fishy smell eventually dissapated but then I read about a cleaning trick. Since I was on a roll with seasoning pans, and the oven was on, I decided to give it a go.
- Bring water in the pan to a boil on the stove.
- Empty the water. This should have taken care of most of it.
- Cover the pan with a layer of salt. Use a nylon brush to clean it.
- Rinse the pan in hot water. Dry the pan. Bake in the over or on the stove top to ensure its dry.
I then covered it in Cristco and baked it for a better layer. Fingers crossed it will be easier to clean next time!
