iPhone Recipe Apps
This week, I downloaded the new mobile app from Food Network.ca and the SparkPeople recipe app, but it was for a newer OS version than I have. I was quite disappointed 🙁 I hate upgrading … especially when it affected my iTunes. I lost my background, it moved all my apps around to different pages, it took a while with several pop-up prompts so I couldn’t leave it unattended, and it changed all the icons/configurations and GUI layouts of my basic functions on the Mac and phone. Grrr anger grr
This is my new home page screen (i.e. unlock background). Gillian took it at Dundurn Gardens behind the cock-fighting gazebo. The path leads down to the lakeshore:
I chose an eclipse picture for my home screen. Doesn’t interfere with the icons, but on pages with less apps I can see it clearly. I pilfered the photo from The Big Picture:
Right – the new recipe apps. Overall not bad. I am very familiar with SparkPeople recipes already, and its nice to quickly look them up when I am heading out to the store (for reference on quantities, etc). It also has a link to the website incase you wanted to see more information or comments. The Food Network app is a little more cumbersome because it has too many search options. It also doesn’t include some chef’s that are broadcast on the Canadian show (like Alton Brown, not that I like him but his recent oatmeal episode for cookies and bread looked interesting) and there are way more names than I have seen shows for … however I do like that the chefs are alpha by first name. I’m more inclined to remember that part and know the spelling!
I also still have the Ratios app on there for quick reference guides of baked goods. I first discovered Michael Ruhlman’s pizza dough and enjoyed reading his blog, but then it became more about his partner’s photography and editing methods. Not my cup of tea, but I should forward it to Gillian … note to self!
Do you have any recommendations for ones that you like?
