Father’s Day
We hosted a family BBQ on both sides to celebrate Father’s Day and a welcome to Mattew, our new nephew who was born at 7:05 am on Saturday at 7lb, 15oz. Just had to post photos »
Instead of burgers, we opted for kabobs. Thick steak cuts were on sale; Steve paired cubed beef with mushrooms and new potatoes (parboiled for 10 minutes). He made chicken thights (cut in half) with asparagus (speared in three pieces) and cherry tomatoes. They were brushed in olive oil, topped with steak spice and then grilled about 4-6 minutes on each side. He also cooked up sausage and I made curry tuna-pasta salad. Mom made a beautiful layered salad in a trifle bowl with fresh peas, cucumber, mushrooms, tomatoes, mesclun salad – I regret not taking a picture. The colours were so vibrant. Laurie made a oreo-cheesecake and Jim brought an apple pie.
It was a great afternoon – even the weather held up to the very end, when there was a sudden downpour for half an hour!
