Supersizers Go …
Great show on Foodnetwork.ca called The Supersizers Go … that was commissioned by the BBC. Love it!
Comedian Sue Perkins and restaurant critic Giles Coren explore the eating habits of the last 500 years. Resplendent in period costume, Sue and Giles eat their way through typical menus representing seven different eras. Bringing history alive with wit and humour they spend a week experiencing the food and lifestyles of each time, measuring the impact on their waistines and general wellbeing.
I watched the Elizabethan episode, which include sheep’s head decorated with offal and leaping frog pie, all prepared by chef Paul Merrett. They also had suckets, or dried sugared fruits, on the menu. Had to look that one up – I had never heard of suckets and would not have guessed it was a dessert. There is a great review of this episode with photos of the food on Just Hungry »
