Niagara Seedy Saturday
I just got back from the Niagara Seedy Saturday, 4th annual exchange at Balls Falls. I met up with Judi first for breafast at the Egg & I. FYI terrible potatoes – reminder for next time to substitute tomato instead of ordering it as an extra side.
The event is run by Linda Crago of Tree & Twig in Wellandport, ON » There was a nominal charge for admission, $1 or a donation, and that included a free parking token, door prizes every hour and a package of free seeds. I got Beets and Judi got kale (I think) chicory. They also had free tea/coffee and desserts available (it was someone’s birthday). Apparently Wild Flower Market was coming to sell lunch but we didn’t stay that long.
There was a Master Gardener on site, two tables for an open seed exchange and literature (gardening magazines, reference flyers, seed order catalogues and Ontario calendars). Several vendors came to sell: seeds, organic weed control and sea grass baskets. Judi bought beans, peas and beets for her garden. I’m not so brave to grow by seed; I get seedlings in June but maybe this will be the year!
They also had guest speakers and showed the short film, USC’s “The Story of Food”. Loved this! Judi said it reminded her of Food Inc., which I apparently HAVE to watch. Soon, I promise 🙂
