Jakob’s Jam
Jakob and I made seedy red current-raspberry jam and pickled garlic scapes this week. It poured rain on us at the market, but we found everything we were looking for: apples, raspberries, red currents and garlic scapes. It was crazy how heavy it rained. Soaking wet, we popped into Bento Box for sushi to go. It was a really fun afternoon!
Just what the heck is a garlic scape? These strange-looking, curly, deep-green stalks are the shoots that grow from garlic bulbs. They are a bit like asparagus in texture, but have a distinct garlicky taste that’s a little milder than the bulbs. – Globe & Mail
