That’s Mdm. President to you …
It is with great joy that I accepted the role of President last week for Soroptimist International of Dundas Ancaster Flamborough.
Shirley, who is a past Governor and Federation Board member, chose a vegetable garden as the theme in honour of my passion for canning and cooking. Directors got shovels to dig into matters and pails to carry out their duties. Our Secretary (with another member as her stand in because she was sick that night) was given a small hoe to weed through all the information and chop out what’s not important for the club garden. Treasurer Janet got a watering can to keep the club funds green and growing. President Elect Pauline got gloves to protect her from the hard work and blisters of doubt and I got a straw hat to protect me from the elements and stay cool as a cucumber when things heat up 😉
The club was suggested to sow the “peas” of patience, presence, purity, promptness and preparation; “squash” gossip, criticism and indifference; “lettuce” be faithful, unselfish, loyal and true; and “turnip” for meetings and conferences, with a smile and new ideas, and determination to make everything count for something and worthwhile. It was excellent! Shirley’s creativity was amazing and I felt so honoured.
Steve and my sisters came to the meeting to support me. I could not have hoped for anything better, and then my Mom presented me with a beautiful bag of flowers:
