Happy Valentines

Steve and I are planning a surprise dinner for each other tonight – last year I made chicken marsala and Steve surprised me with the appetizer (stuffed mushroom caps) and dessert (fruit cobbler with custard). This year I am on app/dessert duty and I was thinking of a chocolate fondu. I’m posting this late so Steve can’t read it at work because I am thinking of foregoing the appetizer because he warned me his meal will be rich, and I want room for lots of dessert 🙂

My Mom sent me her famous recipe. She usually uses twice the chocolate because if you don’t double the recipe then what do you do with the rest of the tin?

Get one 100 g bar of toblerone (I got PC brand milk chocolate because its Steve’s favourite, but I would make it with dark for myself) and half a tin of Eagle Brand Sweetened condensed milk in the little tin. Blend them together and heat until they are warm and creamy.  Put in a heat-proof dish, like a fondue pot.  Keep warm and almost hot but not to the boiling point.

I also got a great recipe from Lorna at work that holds at room temperature. You melt a row of turtles and mix in cool whip.

I got Vortman wafer cookies, pretzels, marshmallows, pineapple and strawberries for dipping. I have also been known to eat this with a spoon – just sayin’ but not too much or you’ll feel sick. I also splurged and got a quality fondu pot/forks. I had a tealight one but it was so small. You really couldn’t fit in enough chocolate!
