Jamie Oliver
Twice now, I’ve caught Jamie’s campaigns on the Food network. The first time he was trying to convince politicians “to ban the junk in schools and get kids eating fresh, tasty nutritious food instead.” My favourite clip was the “smiley face fish & chips” vs his delicious homemade meal with fresh ingredients that cost 10c more – and they rejected the idea because it would cost too much. His School Dinners is more of a Brittish than N. American thing, but the principle of it is still the same (and Nora is adorable)
Most recently it was the Ministry of Food and a Pass it On campaign. He took over a small town in England and tried to teach people to teach others how to cook. Honestly, the site has tonnes of great videos to demo how to make stuff (I particularly like the omlette one because I have always found them intimidating to make). Granted he makes it look easy, but that’s just it – if you practice it will become easy!
I have a friend who wants to learn to cook so I’m hoping we can get together regularly at her place for dinner and make it together so she gets plenty of practice with her own equipment. I’m super excited!
