Chicken Broth
I made fresh chicken soup – all natural with no salt or preservatives. I made it from left over produce that I keep tossing in my freezer (large Ziploc bag with onion roots and skins, celery leaves and stalk ends, broccoli and asparagus stalks, etc.) when I’m chopping vegetables. I also added pepper corns and bay leaves.
Easy to make: put everything in a big pot, just covered it with water (maybe 4-6 cups). I brought it to a boil and then let it simmer, covered, for 30min. Then I removed all the vegetables/chicken into a sieve and drained the residue through a fine mesh to get a clear broth. Great flavour for adding to recipes and soups and freezes well.
I also had great luck with flowers – my houseplants and in the garden. It makes the house seem so much cheerier (plus the scent is very refreshing):
