Preserves
Preserves or fruit butters are very similar to jams. They are loaded with fresh fruit (or vegetables) but have reduced or no sugar added. Preserves highlight the fresh and robust flavour of the harvest but can sometimes be perceived as a touch tart because it has only the natural sweetness of fruit.
These are my personal favourite; I stir a dollop into plain yogurt mixed with muesli as my afternoon snack. Because preserves are versatile (as sweet or savory, depending on your taste buds) they taste equally good on toast as they do with cheese and meats.
Brooke’s jam is nature’s ambrosia…. I love the fact that it is low, low sugar. I can use it in muffins, on yogurt, in my smoothies and a couple of spoonfuls is a great post workout treat!

There are quite a few flavours that have sold out in previous years! These are some of the ones that are currently sold out but I can re-make a batch upon request:
- Tart Apple Spread
- Yellow Plum Sauce with Honey
- Tart Apricot Spread
- Dark Plum Conserve with Dates
- Nature’s Own: Stewed Prune Plums
- Black Plum and Blueberry Spread
- Stewed Summer Fruit: Cherry, Plum & Blueberry
Some jams taste much better as a syrup, also known as a coulis. In this case, it was intentional and best served with ice-cream or pancakes:
- Pineapple Dessert Sauce with Rhubarb
- Blueberry-Strawberry Maple sauce *finished with Canadian maple Whiskey
- Strawberry Rhubarb pie with orange
